So, I tried making an Indian dish. And (suprisingly) it didn’t turn out half bad.

Red velvet cake is one of the most treasured (and tasty) Trenkle/Binder family traditions. You know it’s a pretty special occasion when those delicious layers make an appearance.

This time, it’s because today is Thanksgiving and tomorrow is my dad’s 50th birthday. 

So many good things. So much to be thankful for.

Sweet potato and black bean chili for two. 

A yummy veggie recipe. Plus, my carnivorous boyfriend gave it four out of five stars.

Can every day be like this?

I basically think the downtown Wednesday farmer’s market is one of the best ideas ever. 

Veggie pesto wrap and panna cotta with fresh fruit, nuts, and honey? While sitting outside enjoying a gorgeous day? And catching up with one of my loveliest Des Moinesian friends? Yes, please. 

Carrot cake cupcakes > watching the game.

Cowboy caviar. 

I was introduced to this dish over the summer in Dubuque, and have just been waiting for the day I could try to make it myself. And that day is today. 

It’s super tasty, super simple to make, and the black beans and chickpeas (which I substituted for black eyed peas) provide a good amount of protien for my confused vegetarian self.
